Sat jan 13th C.U.R.S Dinner well this was the best turn out we have had so far .with 37 members coming . and our guest of honor Lt Col Matt Goodrich U.S Army . this would be Matts last dinner with us as his posting ends in July and he will be of to a new posting. Scooby won the re-enactor of the year .and a good time was had by all .so we now look forward to next years dinner and a new officer from the U.S ARMY .
Sat 27th wargaming fair cogan well a good turn out we had 8 members and thanks to mell who come up from Somerset well done . This year our old friends the 41st reg of foot did not come.,but, we made some new friends from the Sir Henry Vaughan's comp of the sealed knot. A good friendly bunch of guys. We look forward to seeing them soon at Margam. and we have been asked to take our stand to Brecon militaria fair on sun 25th Feb so we will . Well that's it a good day was had by all
Sun 14th jan BBC national lottery we where asked to audition for the peoples quiz 2007 .well Mathew Scooby Ringo and myself turned up at 9.am in full uniform as we had been ask to. but we did not make it to the next round but we gave it our best shot .and sorry we did not win any money for TY-HAFAN Childrens hospice. but we had a good time and made some good contracts
Sun Fed 25th Militaria Fair Brecon Market Hall Well this was a new event this year for us and the 1st Brecon fair as well. a lot of the stall holders and us as well got lost in brecon trying to find the place .but in the end we found it .and some of the stall holders thank us as thay spoted my truck and followed us. Any way it was a good event with about 40 stalls .and old re-encator friends to i.e Marcher stuart, and sir henry vaughans company and military vehicle trust. and the stall we were given was big lots of room for us .well we have been asked to go again and i think we will .thanks Jonh for the invite and well done on your 1st event. lets hope it gets biger every year. and to our re-enactor friends we will see ya"ll in may at our big event in margam park
Duffryn Gardens Easter 6th to 9th well this was the first camp of the season .and we were hoping for about 26 tents .but ended up with 17 .but the camp lay out looked good any way. sat and a small battle in the woods at 11am. then living history till 3 PM then down to the main lawn for our demo .which did not go to bad but we had a problem with the Duffryn Gardens P.A .Sun and our 10 mile march for ty-hafan this year pam was not there but Paul from Ty-Hafan came .we handed over our money to them .then started our march with 10 of us .but after 4 miles Mathew pulled out with a bad foot and 5 miles scooby pulled out as put his foot in a rabbit hole. and then spanners pulled out after 8 miles with a pulled leg muscle. but we still finished the march. Mon and the same as Sat but a lot better with help from two members of the 69th N.Y. and the P.A worked well .oh forgot to say the nights where very cold and most of us could not get warm. but the day time very warm .so all in all a very good start to the season .
Fortress Wales 2007 w
as the first event that Wendy from the south wales Borderers ww2 and my self from C.U.R.S. had put on .We have been looking to put on this event for the last 1 1/2 years . Well we did it and a great time was had by all. we put up our camp with about 35 tents .and thanks to the 69th New York for their support . and to all the members of curs .we put on two battles on over the sun & mon .
we also had the 41st reg of foot living history camp and ww2 living history camp , free men of gwent (medieval) living history camp, plus military vehicles and just on the sat Marcher Stuarts (English civil war) we made a lot of new friends and met up with some old friends "oh did i say old well we are not getting any younger" the weather was ok till sun night and boy did we get a storm it lasted for about 16 hours and we had some damage to some of the tents. but we came thru it. we also had our guest of hounor Lt Col Matt Goodrich U.S Army and his two girls who stayed over night with us on the sun .this would be Matt last event with us .as his posting ends on july 16th .We also raised £165.21 for Ty-Hafan Childrens Hospice Which we handed over to Paul from Ty-Hafan on the sun . We have now been given the green light to make this an annual event on the fisrt bank holiday in may .we will be puting up 2or 3 pages on our web site for FORTRESS WALES 2008 with all the info on it
Builth wells motor bike show may 25th to 28th well this was our 3rd year to the bike show .but this time not a very good turn out some of our members had probs this time so we only got to put up 8 tents and only 10 members
but we had a good time .but we also had bad weather on the sat night and sunday and got very wet doing our demo .but thats part of being a re-enactor i ges
Builth wells june 15th to 17th Days of thunder this was a new show for us and sad to say again not a good turn out but beter than we hope for the camp site looked good with it being sited on top of the hill at the top of the show ground and the camp being put on two leavels .we had the cannon sited on the top of the hill and when we fired it the sound was brill it sounded all over the valley .we had bad weather on friday seting up in a thunder and lighting storm .we got to put up 10 tents in all but we could not put any more up as no more room .
